A Brief History
The Village of Colon is located in the eastern half of St. Joseph County.  We are a little less than two square miles in area and have close to 1,200 residents.
Colon was established in 1832 by the Schellhous
brothers when they damned Swan Creek, creating a saw mill. The village was incorporated on January 9, 1904.
We are proudly known as the “Magic Capita
l of the World” and have a rich history of magic. The Great Harry Blackstone Sr. made his home in Colon and is buried here.  Colon is surrounded by water, with Sturgeon (Lower) lake, Palmer lake, and Swan Creek within the Village limits offering numerous recreational opportunities.  During the warm weather months our population swells with cottage and summer home residents.
